In 1969, founder Shayne McCormick returned to Australia from a successful overseas professional ballet career, and established the 'Shayne McCormick Ballet Centre'.
For 55 years she has taught, inspiring students and coaching the next generation of dancers, choreographers, teachers, and industry leaders. Also a prominent figure within the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D), Shayne travels the world examining, bringing this experience and expertise back to Ipswich for her students. In 2025, she began her journey to retirement, with Hannah taking over as Director of McCormick Dance Centre.

At McCormick Dance Centre, we combine passion, care and excellence to deliver meaningful dance education. We honour strong technical foundations while embracing creativity across all styles, empowering our dancers to grow with confidence, discipline and artistic expression in a nurturing and community-focused environment.

Our past students have enjoyed professional dance careers around the world. Some of these ballet contracts include the Australian Ballet Company, Queensland Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet Company, and Royal Danish Ballet. Renée began dancing at the age of 3, and dance has been a constant part of her life ever since.
She trained in a wide range of styles including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical/contemporary and hip hop — much of it right here at the Shayne McCormick Ballet Centre (now MDC). As a “RAAF brat”, Renée also had the opportunity to train at different studios and participate in a variety of programs including the Brisbane Contemporary Dance Intensive, Jacqueline Morland Award performance items, Royal Academy of Dance exam intensives, and eisteddfods across both Queensland and New South Wales.
Renée completed her Certificate III in Dance during high school and undertook RAD exams up to Advanced 1. She began teaching at the then SMBC in 2019 when she was just 16 years old, and has continued to grow her experience as a teacher and choreographer within the same studio where she trained — something she finds incredibly meaningful.
As a teacher, Renée’s focus is on helping dancers feel confident, supported and proud of their progress, while creating a safe, encouraging space where students can challenge themselves and grow at their own pace.
Renée has recently completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy, and looks forward to bringing this knowledge into the studio to further support dancers’ physical wellbeing and development.
She is excited to welcome our dancers and families into another wonderful year at MDC in 2026
